What’s Gesso? 

Gesso makes audio-first city guides, which are featured in our app, Gesso Experiences. Right now, we’re producing a vast catalog of underreported audio stories in cities across the globe. Think Atlas Obscura, a weirder Lonely Planet, or insider tips from your favorite locals -- all as high quality, story-forward podcasts.

 

Job Description

The research assistant will assist Gesso’s lead producer to source the most fascinating stories in cities across the world. You will scour library archives, e-books, JStor, and other reputable sources for the best hidden gems, historical characters, and unsolved mysteries of a given city, scrupulously documenting as you go. You’re teeing up foolproof research so that our producer can write scripts with all the information she needs in-hand, and fact-checking before we publish. You may also assist with production tasks, as well as provide creative input. 

 

Timing

This position will require 10-15 hours of work a week, depending on where we are in the production cycle. The one-month trial run format is for us all to get a sense of how we work together. There is a strong possibility that this role could be extended/grown with time. NYC or London based preferred, remote optional (after quarantine ends, of course). 

 

Pay

$20 an hour 

 

Requirements

• Genuine enthusiasm/curiosity for travel, hidden histories, underdog stories

• 1-2 years research experience

• Sharp, clear writing skills

• Attentive to detail 

• Works well with a small team 

• Good sense of humor 

 

Preferred

• NYC or London-based

• Fact checking experience

• Some audio production experience, or willingness to learn
